What a timely post! Thank you Sir! I was just sitting outside having a smoke and thinking about what I would do. Semi decided to go the circular saw route and was thinking on how to do the 1 1/8 strip bit with one of those guides. And as I have $100.00 burning a hole in my wallet I came inside to see what I could find for that in the range of circ saws. Might just shoot up to Bunnies tomorrow and have a look.

Now, what sort of blade would yoose recommend for ripping 4mm Luan plywood?

Incase you were wondering how I decided to control the 1 1/8" bit I was just going to screw 2 1x3's together, 8 odd feet long, overlapping by 1 1/8". Clamp that onto the edge, run the guide hard up against it, remove the spacer and saw away. Haven't quite worked out what'll happen as the sheet gets thinner though.....

    Cheers
    Bruce

The GMC Platinum sounds a good buy.

And here is a inexpensive jig that is so easy to use. One side is for the circular saw (rip and cross cutting), the other for a router (dados).

Make it from MDF and a steel square section.

    Regards from Perth

Just got back from Bunnings with my $99.00 GMC 235mm Platinum circular saw in hand! Looks like it will do the job just fine. Now I just need to find the right blade for Luan and I am rockin'!

    Cheers

    Default pendon model railway museum

To Bruce and other interested members of model railways.

Attached is a link to in my opinion the greatest model enthusiasts site in the world. In fact they get many overseas visitors in person and there are many printed articles on projects made at this museum.

Unfortunately many of the original members of this society have now passed on but their work is still admired by all.

    Enjoy.

    Enjoy.

Is that shaving cream coming out of the top of your handplane? in the first picture. Is that the next lower level on the slippery slope? Razor sharp edges and now shaving cream? Isn't that extending the metaphor just a wee bit?

Yes, Gillette. It was during my experimental stage (about 4 or 5 years ago) when I had ground the blade into a double bevel - you know, the first one pulls back the grain, and the second bevel cuts it closer. But it left razor burns, so I decided not to pursue it any further. Instead, I turned the plane into a scrub.
