Riving knife for RAS
G'day to all,
Not sure if this is the correct forum but here goes.
Recently purchased DeWalt DW125 RAS without riving knife. Parts now discontinued and seem to be impossible to find secondhand. I think later model guards possibly the 720 model may fit my saw but not 100% sure.
I wish to use the saw for ripping as well as cross cutting so need to make it as safe as possible!
Has anyone here adapted one, or made one to fit a RAS guard?. Seems to be my only hope at this stage.
If someone has these parts or even a complete guard that is adaptable, I would be interested in purchasing this.
Any help and advice appreciated.
Cheers.

I have to admit in 40+ plus years of Cabinet maker and working on probably 50 different RAS I have never seen one with a riving knife, kick back palls yes but never a riving knife

Hi guys, not meaning to be defensive but I will be using this saw for ripping. That's one of the reasons I bought it.
I don't have room for a table saw so trying to get the best from my RAS. Safety a priority!
I have purchased the Mr. Sawdust book, just waiting for delivery.
The DW125 came from the factory with a riving knife as well as kickback pawls. These are also a standard item on later DeWalt RAS.
Thanks for all the replies,
Cheers.

Spent 4 years as apprentice using a RAS to rip, I don't believe there was even any way to attach a riving knife

G'day guys,
The DeWalt DW125 and later models had riving knives factory fitted to the guard.
I don't have room for a table saw so need to safely rip with my RAS. I have just purchased the Mr. Sawdust book to safely set up my saw as well.
Hoping someone on this forum has spare parts that they can sell me, fingers crossed!
Cheers.

G'day guys,
Thanks Warrick for the diagram. Hoping someone on this forum has an old RAS that maybe is not working anymore and are prepared to sell me the parts I am looking for.
I have recently purchased the Mr. Sawdust book so hope to safely set up and use my saw for its intended purpose.
Thanks to all.
Cheers,
Jules.

I can't help with the riving knife but I have the kickback pawl that came from my FIL's old deWalt RAS. He is long retired and the three RAS' I have ( 2 Sawmasters and a newer de Walt compact RAS 7710 ) - none of them have a provision for fitting one. You are welcome to it ( if I can find it )! I never knew what one was until after I'd finished my apprenticeship as none of the ones we used had one fitted.
I'll dig it out and take a photo.
Here's the one it came off - a deWalt 1512

Here it is - 330 mm long shaft and 1/2" diameter.

Graeme don't get wrong I was trying to get the message across that many, many machines on the used market would not have provision for a riving knife, not advocating that there is
no reason to use one.
