Rookie project - Cutting board
Hey guys, after seeing Christos' thread about Christmas presents i'm thinking I'd like to make some cutting boards for Christmas gifts this year.
So some questions:
1. What timbers can i use for a 2 tone cutting board ?
2. Where do i source said timbers in Brisbane ?
3. I don't have a thicknesser or tablesaw so does this make this particular project null & void before i even start ?
4. Will have to research finishes if/when this project actually happens ...
Cheers, Scott

No expert but about to embark on a similar project, my thoughts thus far.
1. Go for hardwoods or any fine grain timber (have done yellow box and red gum), stay away from oily timbers like cedars.
2. I'm a Mexican 😄 but professor Google will help you
3. I don't have a thicknesser but have a triton table saw and mitre saw the power tools can make it faster but don't necessarily make it better, lots of clamps would be more useful.
4. Look no further than the forum moderator ubueat, the food safe oil is best I have used. While you are there get some titebond iii waterproof glue to hold it all together.
sit back enjoy the ride
cheers
