Wire wheel on an angle grinder works pretty well. A dust mask (as well as full face shield, ear muffs and patience is highly recommended. Using two grades of wheels speeds up the process.

How long to you think this prosess will take and also what kind of sand paper is the best to get rid off all those wire scratches on the wood

No sandpaper is involved - the first coarse wire wheel get's rid of bark and lumps and the second one reduces the big scratches to small ones that look quite natural and once can live with. The overall speed of the process depends how much needs to be ground away.

Do you have an angle grinder?

You can get sanding disks that will go on it.

I use 40, 80, 120 grits, just lightly wipe it over the surface, don't stay too long in the one place & don't press too hard 'cos you will burn it.
You will also find that you get black streaks in a hurry if there is any dampness/sap left in the wood IE: too green.

If you have a variable speed grinder, slow it down & then there is less chance of leaving burn marks.
    Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

What Bob said, or if you dont have one for an angle grinder, then get one that fits in a drill. Both will leave minimal scratch marks.

    G'day E****d.

I thought the wire brush idea of BobLs was pretty good so grabbed a piece of old jarrah stump and gave a small patch a scrub.
I think the result looks good with minimal scratches.
    Regards,
    Geoff.

Yep - if you go with the grain like that it works pretty well. If you also get brass coated wire brush that uses thinner wire it will look even better.
