    Agree with craig, used one of these for drilling the holes in the uprights in my timber rack, using an auger bit (thread here, specific post here).

    Put an angled subbase & fence on it to get consistent angles, could use the same principle to drill slightly angled dog holes..

    Well the one I have is like the second pic. Mine does seem to have a bit more "meat" to it though. I didn't have the same probs that Groggy had with his . The plunge worked reasonably smoothly and there wasn't any juddering. I guess mine wasn't made on a Monday or a Friday.

    Still, they aren't an ideal bit of kit but they will drill a vertical hole and they are rather more portable than a DP.
