There you go Dingo, you never need a reason for another router. My first one was a Ryobi 3/4 HP with 1/4 collet. Big bulky one but runs smooth. It is mounted in my table with a Rout-U-Life system. later I bought a Chicago Tools ( El-Cheapo ) plunge router with 1/2 collet. I bought both of these becase the name brands ones where to $$$. I finaly got me the Porter Cable one in the above post with the standerd base and plunge base. it also has a 1/4 and 1/2 collet and takes less them 3 secounds to change them. I wish I would of just bought it first ( 163 $ US at a woodworking show )

    Doug.

Ya it is strange the way some things are. The Fixed base router is the main stay of all wood working and still about 90% of all router in the USA. Now every company has a plunge router in there line, but it took a while. The US Market is strange. Before most company deside to sell an item in the market, thay do research, eat a lot of donuts, drink coffee and deside the Americans dont need that. Like a pick-up trucks with 4 doors. thay where out in Japan 15 year befor that where in the us for the comsumers. Allthough the military hads had 4 doors turck back in the 50's

And while we are on the topic of fertilizer (BS) while going through some pawn shops today looking for a used base for my router I saw 6 Porter Cable router all for under $50 US . might bave to go back after the 1st

Sam, you will get offcuts of laminate (the 1mm or so thick sheet used for benchtops) from any kitchen maker, drive around an industrial estate and you should find a few. Shops that do postforming (those nice round edges) are a good source as well, some will let you scab bits out of their bin for nix.

Glue it on with a contact adhesive, I have had best results with Laminex brand, found it to be runnier than Selleys or Bear brands and gave the best result.

    Good luck...........cheers...............Sean
