resin
I have read about how some of you use resin to fill big voids in timber features. This is the question, how do you use it? and where do you get it? Is it hard to use?
Any advice you all could give is greatly appreciated.

I used West System epoxy for the following. Comes in easy to measure pump packs. 1 squirt from the resin and hardener and is mixed right. I believe it can also be tinted.IMG_3132.jpgafter IMG_3131.jpg .. IMG_3125.jpgbefore
Finish looks better than in photo's. Sands and planes nicely.
Got mine from carbatec.

Good Morning Rob
I also use epoxy. Confirm that it can be tinted very successfully; can also be thickened and used as a gap filling glue. You can get it from yacht chandleries, specialist paint shops, and most hardware stores.
There is a massive amount of information on the WEST System website. Really worth reading.
Like most things, there is a little technique in using the stuff - suggest some practice pieces before you tackle the real workpieces. Make mistakes on the expendable.
Wet epoxy hates water - goes cloudy - so surfaces must be dry. Also cure speed depends on temperature so in Longreach you might want the "slow cure" hardener.
Finally, follow the safety instructions - its nasty stuff and people accumulate sensitivities. I now get a twitch in my left eye from epoxy fumes - a mate reacts violently, is debilitated and gets migraine for 4-5 days!

Thanks for the replies gents, I have been using ordinary araldite but I've found that over time it seems to go yellow here in the heat. I'll look up the suggestions and see what what I can afford and try.

I think you will find that all marine epoxy exposed to the sun goes yellow over time, and breaks down over long time - that is one good reason why boats are coated. However I believe there are special resins just for your task, have not used them, but I think many people tint black

I use west systems with special clear hardener.. works great.. crystal clear when dry .. doesn't yellow.. can be tinted if required...quite forgiving too.. and very easy to use.. I'm using syringes to get the right ratio and make smaller volume...
