Finishing Jarrah Outdoors
G'day everyone.
I am half way through producing a few jarrah screening gates. I have gone for jarrah as I really wanted the deep red colour. However once the timber was delivered it was not quite as dark as I would have hoped.
Just wondering what suggestions anyone has for the best finish to help bring out the deep colour and grain. These are outdoor so that must be considered.
Thanks, hopefully hear some suggestions soon.

Try some raw linseed oil with 10 - 20% turps for first coat then pure linseed for second coat 24 hours later. You will find that the red will come out when you apply the oil and then it should darken with exposure to sun.

Seeing as the gates are outdoors and will be subjected to rain, wind and sun you may want to coat it with a marine grade sealant.
Not only will it bring out the deep red of the Jarrah but will protect from the elements.
I just completed a planter box for my mum and used a marine grade sealant, the wood looks great and is well protected.
Just sand the gates, dust off, apply 2-3 coats, 24 hour drying time in between coats and your laughing mate.
