During the brief break in the Sydney drought, many of my tools began to rust inc the planes (horror). I had used silicon spray, then wax but the first has all that bad press and the second really didn't work that well.
I bought some SilverGlide and, to date, no rust anywhere.
Whilst it is intended, primarily, as a slip addition for metal tables it does seem to have excellent rust prevention properties also.

Hi, Les.
This may seem like a dumb question, but have you considered storing your newly de-rusted tools in wooden boxes? You could even go so far as to get packets of sodium salicilate....you know, the "don't eat" little sachets that come in lots of things? Sawdust also works a treat to keep rust away. So, if you were to WD-40 the tools and store them in wooden boxes with wooden lids and a reasonable seal, there's no reason to believe that they will rust again.
