Don't use salt, it will impact the glue bond (I have experimented using salt& PVA a long time back when this was suggested me)
Instead, assemble the joints and let them sit a while to allow the glue to tack up before applying clamp pressure. As noted above, apply clamp pressure slowly and evenly. Joints should not slide if you do this.
