    Default Sash Clamp Hire Sydney

Hi. I'm new to this forum and new to woodwork, but I'm thinking of having a go at building a dining table. With this in mind, I'll need some sash clamps and I was hoping somebody would know where I could hire some in Sydney? I live in the Eastern Subs but am happy to travel of course. If anyone has any knowledge of where I could hire them from then it would be much appreciated!!

    Thanks in advance!

Maybe you could buy some very inexpensive pipe clamps? The clamp end pairs are inexpensive, maybe $20 a pair, and galvanised steel water pipe is also cheap. I do have some long sash clamps (purchased second hand, mostly) but my mainstays are the inexpesive pipe clamps. Probably cheaper than hire and esy to store..

McJing in Yagoona sell zinc plated pipe threaded one end as well as the pipe clamp heads for reasonable prices. Otherwise you will need to go to a steel yard or plumber's supply shop for the pipe and then hope they will thread it for you (a lot refuse) then go to a decent DIY shop to get the clamp heads.

There are also clamp sets that bolt onto a wooden beam, very much like pipe clamps but they don't slip when you wind them tight. Not sure about McJings but Carbatec sell them.

Of course you may not need sash or pipe clamps at all depending on how the table is constructed, you may be able to get away with some of the more common general purpose clamps from the local hardware store which can be repurposed for later projects (book cases, kitchen cupboards etc.....)

Or check out Ebay, but you will need to know what to look for like cracked/broken end castings, stripped threads and such.

I also use pipe clamps and have one suggestion. Sometimes the tail end of the clamp-ends will slip on the pipe.My solution is to drill a hole through the pipe every 50 or so mm and use a nail as a stop....very simple, yet very effective. Good luck with your dining table!
