Sawdust cannon and fireball
In a rare moment of resorting to TV to entertain myself, I caught Mythbusters proving or disproving some viral videos.
One of them was this vid of a sawdust cannon and resulting fireball from a road flare placed on top of the dust pile before launch.

The show proved that it was real by making their own cannon and replicating the video. They then went on and made a larger cannon and "fueled" it with non-dairy creamer for an epic eyebrow singer.

Just thought I'd share some shenannigans that shouldn't be repeated at home by woodworkers

Well I got kicked out of a lot of science classes...for scientific reasons...
Teacher: "Find something in the class room that has iron in it by making a magnet stick to it."
Me: "Those girders in the roof look likely...*upward toss*...yep."
Teacher: "Get out."
Me: "Ahh you're just jealous you didn't think of it."

2/3 non dairy creamer and 1/3 FFG makes a nice whoosh of a fireball out of an open soup can. If you change the proportions to 50/50, add maybe 10" time fuse ( = 10 seconds)
and put an empty 4l paint can over the soup can as you light the fuse. The combustion will lift the paint can about 10-15m straight up. All show and no go. Fairly standard FX trick to make what looks like a big bang. . . dub the sound in later. Adding any amount of sawdust/Rice Bubbles doesn't add anything.
I have dropped my commercial fireworks license but I have kept my FX ticket for the movies & TV.

6th December 2011, Mythbusters were able to put a cannonball in one wall of a building and out the other, before damaging a vehicle and they were not even trying! Look forward to seeing this program.

Heh yeh. Although Jamie and Adam made the apology, it was the other three doing the experiment that got it wrong. It's the first serious public problem they've had since the show started...that's not a bad track record given what they get up to. They've said they are still going to air the segment. Will be interesting to see how much of the faux pas they include.

I first caught these guys a few years back, they certainly do some out there mad stuff, it'd be a great job to build stuff then blow it up, the sawdust cannon is a good example of given the right air fuel mix burning will/can occour, the creamer looked a bit rich tho, small enough particles of aluminium will go up
