Default Sawstop users: What blade are you using?

I just bought a several Opteco blades without thinking there would be any issues and not researching. 5/8th arbor blades don’t seem to be common in Aus. They were supplied with bushings that are nearly .2 of a mm bigger and can definitely feel a gap between the saw blade and shaft. I'll try to find a bushing that fits better and that will hopefully solve that one.

I got to reading and found a post that talked about the outer washer depression and how the bushing might fall out. One suggested using thin washers either side of the blade and bushing. The gap concerns me. I’m guessing this might be an issue?

My JET tablesaw is also 5/8 arbor - I agree not as many choices as you'd like here, but there are quite a few Freud blades that fit. I also use Infinity sawblades, but have to buy those in from the US.

In Sydney, Major Woodworking keep quite a few Freud blades in 5/8 arbor. I've bought from them in the past.

Other than that, I'm sure a big local outlet like Leuco would make some.

I use Freud fusion P410 and Freud LU84MR011 for general purpose and Freud glue line rip LM74R010 for ripping

All excellent! I'm a big Freud fan. I've found Amazon the cheapest place to buy these particularly if your a prime member where delivery is included

I've also tried Sawstop's own titanium general purpose blade. Also very good but given the choice I would buy the Freuds again.

All 5/8"arbor which is the only blades I'd get. Like you I've had problems with bushings

Sawstop 80 tooth for crosscuts and melamine. I got a Sawstop 40 tooth which I don't use anymore since I got a Torquata 24 tooth ripping blade. The Torquata is 30mm but with the bushing from Timbecon it's a nice fit, I haven't measured if there is any gap though. But I did buy it in Feb 2019 and have been using it since with no problems, so I'd say it's probably alright.

Thanks for the replies. I'm trying to see If what I bought can be used safely before heading to other brands but some of those look like good options. I hadn't heard of Opteco before but they're made in Australia so happy to give them a go. Opteco is also priced cheaper than the Sawstop brands so there's that.

I ordered a few 30mm to 5/8ths bushings. They came with 30mm to 16mm bushings which isn't a big difference but after reading a few threads, seems the best move was getting the ones that fit properly.

Definitely not fit for purpose. Or fraudulent advertising.

5/8 inches is definitely not 16 mm - its actually 15.875 mm.

It is potentially dangerous; I would not attempt to use them.

FWIW I have found Timbecon's blade bushes OK - good thickness, no slack, firm in blade.

    I should rephrase that.

I ordered the blades not realising they need to be reduced and they came with 30mm to 16mm bushings. I asked my sharpening guy for some good quality blades and that's what he got. I think more of a imperial/metric mix up. Probably should have done some more research before hand.

On the saw there was the tiniest amount of movement between the blade and shaft. After getting the calipers out, I realised they were too big and ordered more 30mm to 5/8 bushings.

I think you'll find a decent quality bushing will give you a pretty secure fit, both on the blade and on the arbor. And yes, you'll need an actual 5/8" bushing, not 16mm. Carbatec have these in stock. This is the Linbide one I have from Timbecon but they are out of stock.

Im struggling to understand how people can buy something that is spinning at 6000 rpm and could potentially become a missile, or parts of it could, purely on a price basis. Cheap blades are cheap for a reason, because they cut like crap and don’t last. I prefer to buy a known, well made brand, that is proven, from a specialist supplier like a reputable saw doctor. Buying tooling on price alone is false economy, and potentially dangerous.

I've had problems with bushings in the past. On one occasion I removed the saw blade but the bushing remained jammed on the saw arbor. Had a hard time getting it off.

I now stick to native 5/8" inch arbor blades bought from Amazon Australia (usually shipped from the US - free shipping with a Prime Account as the blade costs more that AUD 49) .

I've used CMT and Freud blades with success.

Here's a nice blade (free delivery as it's shipped from AU):

I use bushings from Carbatec with a couple of blades on my SS with no issues. Nice and tight to the blade and arbor.

I purchased an Opteco flat top rip blade from Cutting Edge Saws in Kirrawee some 2 years ago. They fitted the blade with a 5/8" bushing which seems to have been pressed into the larger arbor. Absolutely no slack when mounted to the saw which I presume is the idea in the first instance!

I get my blades sharpened at ACE sharpening in Braeside. They also turned up a bush for me when I traded my Carbatec TS for a Sawstop. It's a nice snug fit on my 30mm blades.
