    Default Sawtill from worthless wood

In the continuing process of trying to clear up my workspace I decided it was time to get my hand saws off the ground and store them with some respect.

Originally I thought it might be a good project for the pallet challenge; but other things got in the way and I didn't have the time. Nonetheless not having a suitable pallet but a pile of worthless wood on the garage floor I decided to start with that instead, which in itself helps with cleaning up more of the junk piles.

Here is the result. Loosely based on the Sawtill project from the OldTools list and made from worthless wood and other scraps.

The dimensions were dictated by the timber I had on hand. Since I was starting with a slab I decided to leave the sides just at the thickness that arose from flattening them rather than taking the stuff down to the 3/4" thickness of the original design.

The wood was sourced from my last scabby slab of knotty hoop pine, a few offcuts of other hoop pine knots from other slabs, an old split barge board that I originally thought was oregon but when I started cutting realized was western red cedar, various bits of old painted pine battens and other scraps.

Shock horror, I'm actually planning to put a circular saw blade caddy on the right hand side. I don't need to put back saws in there as I have them hanging in my main tool cabinet. But still, there is room for another 4 which should be enough.

Repeat after me. I am not a collector, I am not a collector........

If I say nice work and you have given me some inspiration to make my own I have to commit to making one so I can get my saws off the floor.

So I am going to say crap work and you have not inspired me and I will leave my saws on the floor.

Your reply would be, "Yeah right."
