Sealing
Hi I'm fairly new to wood turning and was wondering what I could use to seal the end of logs. Thanks Corry

Frankly, anything is better than nothing; even old leftover house paint will do. In that case, oil-based is best.
The trick is to seal ASAP after cutting... straight off the saw is best with some woods. You can always trim and/or reseal later if you're not happy with the first coat.
Personally, I prefer a commercial sealer (Mobilcer-M) although I've recently heard they've stopped production. (Hopefully it's still available, just under another name.)
Other options are dipping into melted wax, or a mix of styrofoam dissolved in turps (brings back ol' school memories that one ) or even painting with bituminous paint/automotive underbody sealer.

Carbatec sold a Log End Sealer in a can once. Might still do? Not sure what's in it though but seems to work ok on most woods. Some will crack no matter what you do!
How much wood could the woodchuck chuck if the woodchuck could chuck wood?
