    Default Seasoning some burl

    My work cut down an old spotted gum and left some of the base.

    Its roughly 1.2-foot wide by about half a foot thick.

    How do I go about drying this out without it forming massive cracks? I have no plans on what to make from it so I am not rushed for time for it to dry out.

    Am I correct in thinking you are describing a 6' round taken from the butt log? If so, this is not an actual burl and the short grained round would split badly during drying.

    Yep you're right. Got my terminology mixed up.

    They have taken the trunk of the tree, and cut it across making circles out of it about 6 inches thick. Are these any good? apart from firewood?

    Not really. You only have 6" length of timber to work with. Drying will crack most of that anyway and you will be left with wedge shaped cake slices. Firewood I guess.
