Self-adhesive sandpaper
A number of US publications refer to self-adhesive sandpaper. Is this available in Australia. I have had a quick look around Sydney but have been unable to find any.

I discovered this type of paper from building R/C airplanes. I use and love the stuff constantly. It maintains its abrasiveness longer than regular paper plus it creates a perfectly flat sanding surface. You can purchase rolls of 2" wide paper from hobby/model shops or catalogs. If I'm thinking about the same paper, it's intended to be used on alum. sanding blocks. You can obtain those in varying lengths.
If the shipping is not too outrageous try this. Scroll down to the section under Great Planes mfg. http://www.towerhobbies.com/listings/cat-cat-r.html
Hope this helps!Last edited by dave_edson; 8th August 2004 at 11:56 PM. Reason: Link added

Thanks Dave. At least I know where to go if I can't be pointed to a local supplier.

Hello, BobR
I remember having some, years ago, came in a roll and was made by 3M ( Alu. oxide ). I think, I bought it from an Automotive supplier, maybe wear the panelbeaters buy thier supplies would be a good start.
Anyway, hope it helps.Toe: a device for finding furniture in the dark.

Gday BobR, I think the stuff you are referring to is PSA sandpaper, or Pressure Sensitive Adhesive.
I think the nature of the paper itself will vary according to the application, but the adhesive has a low to medium tack that leaves no residue when removed. I think panel beaters would use it most commonly on air disk sanders & the like. It was on the market a while before hook & loop type systems and is probably still a fair bit cheaper.
You could try the Yellow Pages under Abrasives.
Another option for the adhesive (the sandpaper would probably still be cheapest from an Abrasives supplier) is to get it from a mob called Embletons (hope the spelling is right). Don't recall the specific name of the product, but is is sold in 500ml container for under $20 and is the actual PSA adhesive. The adhesive is supplied to them by Bostik but must be imported or something as it isn't a Bostik product. Selleys used to have a similar product but it's discontinued.
I haven't dealt with them, just heard of 'em, I think they have branches in Huntingdale & Coburg among others (Melb, Vic) - anyone correct me here.
HTH.........cheers.........Sean

self adhesive sandpaper.
Try Australian Industrial Abrasives. Underwood, Brisbane, Qld.
Or use spray adhesive and affix to glass or 18mm MDF board.
