Self Adhesive Tape Measure
Hi all,
I'm looking for an adhesive tape measure for a project and have had no luck sourcing one. Tried all over the web but only US sites seem to have them. Any ideas? (preferably Melbourne)
cheers,
David

Try Carba-Tec Part number 76030. 760mm Anodized aluminium adhesive rule. Phone 1800 653 777, or order it over the Internet.

I use the ordinary dressmakers measuring tape and stick it on with double sided adhesive carpet tape. Works a treat and is cheap.

I used combination metric and imperial because I have a lot of plan in Imperial.
See pictures.

Try axminster power tools, they were cheap when i bought mine at christmas( well my brother walk in there and sent me, aint paid him yet). just looking in their catalogue the 0 to 50" (0 to 1270) is 6.44 GBP and the 300 - 0 - 300 is 4.30 GBP
Mind you it is good when you know the 2 owners and my brother lives 5 mins down the road from them
Possibly it is time for someone to come up with a hardware store that sells T-Track , knobs, alli extrusions, tapes etc for sale by mail here is Aus, If i had the money i certainly would start it.
I did go through the process of working out how much T=Track would cost to be made here worked out something like $5000 for 3000m or $166 per meter anodised

Hi,
I agree with Peter, just use a dress makers tape.
Barry, you are right about the price ($39) but that is for the Biesemyer Adhesive tapes. These are 12ft long and have L-R or R-L measurements.
The black anodized rule is 760mm long and is $13. A 1000mm alloy rule is only $12 too, so it all depends on what you want and how much you want to spend.
Cheers,
Glen

adhesive measuring tape
Hi,
I found this thread while looking for long tape measure to attach to a fence on a woodworking machine. I was looking for a cheap FLAT metal tape at least 2.4 M long to glue on , but could not find anything completely suitable or at a reasonable price. At K-mart I found QUILTERS TAPE... like a dressmakers tape but 3 M long and 19 mm wide..... also double sided hemming tape the same width for attachment rather than carpet layers tape as suggested in this post.
About $6.50 for both. Tape is fabric, and will be subject to wear, but then again same applies to metal unless deeply etched rather than painted. Another thought I had was to use clear doming resin (mixed with catalyst and poured onto surface it flows along and creates a dome. Surface tension prevents flow over the edges.)
I did not do this because I had limited clearance between tape and a moving gauge, but the dome would give protection & a magnifying effect.
