Selling down pretty much everything - BIG sale
(Mods - remove this post if it defies the rules too much or can be placed in a better area). Admin approved - DJ
Time has come to sell down all "the big stuff" and their accessories. A sample is below.
INITIALLY, rather than list 120 separate items, I thought to put up a google sheet so everyone:
- Can see what I have and an indicative price
- Register, or indicate, an interest for that item
- That way I know what to photograph first and list in a sane order
The idea being to save on postage. I can bundle everything together and people don't get disappointed thinking "I wish I knew he was selling THAT too".
The site has its rules and I'll absolutely follow those. This isn't a "mine" thing, simply a "I might be interested and its absolutely no commitment to buy". The actual forums listing will be the official thing.
I'll make a Google Docs list that can be seen via a link. One can peruse that and simply put your forum handle/username next to it. I'll send a message via the forums messaging tool, once the item lists, so you are not caught out unaware.
How does this sound? Is it within the sites rules/vibe ??
On The GDocs
It is a spreadsheet that is shared via link. One will simply put their handle next to the item. I'll post as it as a link, which will be also in each advertisement/sale.
This is a start on the items.... to whet thy appetite.... indicative prices have not been included for simplicity.

Without prices it's pretty much not worth reading. Let us know when you get prices fixed.

Evan,
Hope you are not getting out of woodwork alltogether. You have been a great contributer to the forum.
Anyhow I see your logic with a list that big so good luck with the sale and whatever direction the future takes you.
Regards
John

It's like a free to air tv program teaser that goes for months... Who cares, just get on with it. Nothing else matters.
And no it's actually not that hard... Put it all on ebay and let the market decide the price. All you have to do is put up an accurate title and description, the bidders will do the rest. Risk is: You might not get what you think it's worth. Which has nothing to do with what something is actually worth.
Problem in this country is sellers often want more than the market will pay, so you get this sort of teasing to stir up buyers. It's a yawn sort of situation in that let me know when you are serious...
YMMV

DJ, ripper. Thanks.
I've had a few very kind messages since posting this
I might say, I'm NOT getting out of woodworking, far from it! My passion is just as strong as it was. What I have is a lack of a studio! Since I'm in the unit... and unit life looks to be a thing for a while (SWMBO has a wicked brain tumour and things are not getting better) it makes a lot of sense to move my beautiful gear on to others who can gain immense satisfaction from it.
One will note that the list is ~120 items, but the keen eyed will see I accidentally left my listing key on the left! There are about 450 items in 380 odd entries (the missing ones are things I've moved on with the forum, or put into other sub-sheets, such as router bits).... so a simple mathiness leaves about 200 items still ON the list I'm keeping!
Items for hand tool work. Smaller machines I can pack away. Project based "keepings".
A few notes to quell the rumours!
- Firstly, I wished to gain the permission of the board to do this unusual sale style (granted! Thank you overlords!)
- Second, was to simply prep the market... get up peoples attention (like @TheSpinDoctor, who is VERY keen!)
- Third, this weekend I will put up the Google Sheet and the form. Its only a basic thing, just your handle.
- Fourth, a thing saying "interested" is only that, an interest. There is no commitment on your part, at all. I will message everyone as a BCC PM advising something like "Item #47 widget with grease to be listed today (approx time)".
- Fifth, I'll have indicative prices ASAP. I'll advise, and put that up as Sale Zero on the proper place (this sub is just the General, not the sale area)
- Lastly, all sales will follow the sites rules, assiduously.
This is so I can get an idea of what to sell first. Everything has been in a Storage King secure store and its a major PITA to take out things that won't sell.... but if I know #17, 18, 32 and 35 are desired first, then I will get those and take some NICE photos of them so everyone knows what they are buying.
The OTHER reason is if, for example, someone wants to buy the lathe, then they ALSO know there are a number of tasty accessories to come sooner/later - chucks, gouges, doodads and thingys that would be logical to also acquire....
Next, to answer @TheSpinDoctors... enquiries.... there are no prices yet as I'm not an auction house with unlimited resources. I've put a few good guesses - but ANYONE who knows me I always try to strike a fair price, not necessarily the best price for me. It is part of my psyche that nice things need nice homes and I like the idea my reliquaria might go on to a better place I believe (hope!) that those who have dealt with me previously feel I rate fairness, trustworthiness and honesty very highly. I'm never after the last shekel. Not my style.
There is no need to get scrappy on this sale. Its all good brand name good quality honest equipment. I'm certain everyone knows it all well.
I'll post more when the register-interest sheet is ready.

Good to hear you're not pulling the pin on woodwork; just downsizing a bit.
Looking forward to seeing the list proper; there are a couple of things that have piqued my interestNothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.

A few delays. I'll post up the info when its ready.
After I made the initial post there have been some wrinkles in life. Sorting those first
If the mods read this, please feel free to delete the entire thread if you wish.....
