Arder whilst i am out in the burbs i did join a woodworking club that has now morphed into a mens shed when i was a similiar age to you and there was an 18 year old at the club i was at yesterday.Girls also welcome. Checkout the rules / regs of the clubs. I have fronted up to a frail / aged mens shed though and have been turned away.
That being said most of them dont open on the weekend. If you have transport there may be a few options in the inner west (like not out here!).

To set something up like that in close proximity to Sydney city and the size of the building you would need to rent to accommodate the machinery, would cost an arm and a leg. I can't even imagine what the insurance would be cover that sort of operation just for casual hobbyists.
I wouldn't be surprised if some insurance companies refused to take it on,Reality is no background music.
Cheers John

If your local Mens Shed has rules that preclude you, why not look at joining the Woodworkers Association of NSW? They have a workshop at Abbotsford that is being built up.

Forum member DIY DAN, (if I remember correctly) had a similar operation running up towards Berowra??? a couple of years ago. He gave it away, after he was injured in a tablesaw?? accident. I have seen him on the forum off and on since. If he is still active, he might have some input for you.
