Shellac before cutting and gluing
I read a little tip today that suggested that putting a coat of shellac on timber before cutting it can reduce tear out and splintering. It sounds like a half decent idea and might solve the trouble I've been having with the ding puzzles I'm making and the pieces losing their corners or splintering along some of the edges.
Has anyone tried it?
Gluing up the puzzle pieces would mean one face would have shellac on it while the other would be a raw cut. Any ideas on how the join might be affected with white PVA (what I'm currently using) or Polyurethane glue?
Obviously I could try this all myself but my saw carked it again (shredded drived belt this time ) so I thought I'd throw it out here while I wait for spare parts.
