Shelves to suit Walk-in Robe
We've recently moved house and all of the built-in robes were the standard one shelf one hanger. I've managed to add melamine shelving into all of the rooms except the master and the wife is very happy.
However in our room we have a walk-in (n shaped) wardrobe with a further built-in robe. Her decision is that the robe will be used for hanging (i.e no changes from me) but the walk-in should be all shelving, given most of our clothing goes on shelves.
Well it's been 2 months since move-in and despite doing the kids 3 bedrooms I'm no closer to starting the walk-in. I'm really stumped as to how to build it. The built-ins were pretty easy with timber supports on three walls and the melamine shelving simply resting on them. I'd like to have added an extra support but was vetoed due to the extra time, and to be fair the weight on the shelves is minimal meaning no sag (so far).
Searched, but haven't found much to assist with the design. Can someone please assist with advice?
Wardrobe is 2200mm wide (with cavity sliding door exactly in the middle) and 1350mm deep.
Thanks,
tony

You may get more answers in the renovate forum.
Can't you follow the design of the existing shelf (I take it there is one there).
Timber battens on all walls for the shelf to sit on. Shelf cut to fit across the back, then inserts cut to fit each side. You can then either place a batten (42x19mm) under the front of each side shelf between the door wall and back wall (I've successfully used this method) or use dowels to join, but not sure how well this would work in practice.
You could also get 2400 x 1800mm sheets and get them CNC cut to size.Kev

I am thinking that as you are building with melamine you could think in the same line as your kitchen cabinets. From your kickboard, sides and shelves with a back for support.
