    Default Silky Oak Hat rack

    Hi,

I obtained a couple of silky oak flitches. This piece immediately said hat rack. Sanded the face then drilled the holes for the railway spikes. Hammered in the spikes and then put 5 coats of varnish.

Hardest part was mounting it on the wall as the back is uneven. Looks good. Reckon.

    Thanks for looking.

    Todd

    Hi Todd.

    Looks great.

By sheer coincidence, my SWMBO and i today visited a country rustic furniture shop that had 3 or 4 coat racks made with railway spikes on small natural edge pieces of redgum.

She mentioned that i should make a couple.

Lo and behold, visit the forum and here's one in front of me. Amazing.

    Steven.

The lord works in mysterious ways Steven....

Looks great Todd. Where did you get the spikes? I just want to avoid that line.....

You need to have a friend who works on the railway or even walk along a railway. When they repair the lines they replace the spikes. They throw the old spikes away.

When you look at a piece of timber and it tells you what it wants to be - you can't go wrong.

You listened well and did this board a big favour, well done.
