My son wants to make a small step stool. Can anyone recommend some simple plans for a teenager to follow.

Mort... depends on just how simple you want to go? elaborate simple with dovetails turned legs and carved top with marquetry simple or butt jointed 2x1s with the same for legs and a couple for the seat simple?
Depends on your term for simple eh?
I was left a really wonderfully intricate stool by my mum when she passed on who was left it by her first husbands grandmother when she passed on who was left it by her mother etc etc etc... really ornate peice that puts the fear of god in me every time we take it out of the cupboard and place in the living room... rare occasions when the missus wants to feel precious
And Ive got anther I bodgied together out of said 2x1s stands about 8in high solid as a brick shytehouse in a cyclone and is used every day in the shed... gotta use somethin to raise meself that 6 or so inches to the loft rough as guts just lengths of 2x1s cut to so long butted to other short bits to make the sides then the legs are just 6 or so inches of the same 2x1s cut to length and butt against the sides at the corners to meet with the top of the sides then 3 of the same 2x1s butted together and placed on top... all screwed together... of course after years of my abuse throwin an kicking its now covered in cuts scratches glue paint varnish and all sorts of snot an gobble... but was a time it and its now long lost mate were the pride of the little girls who are now women childhood... easy as to make mate
Im sure there has to be plans out there on this internet but for something as simple as a little stool specially if a little tackers gonna make it then a few short lengths of 2x1 are just right as a starting adventure (depending on the age and ambitions of the nipper of course!)
If you must have a link to some plans try Messmans
I havent checked if he has any and some of his links are old and not working but worth a try
Cheers!Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

Mort,
I don't have any plans, but any of these three stools would be easy enough to copy!

Norm Abram has plans for Shaker-style step stools in his book 'Mostly Shaker' and on his website, http://www.newyankee.com/getproduct3.cgi?301 .

There was an article in AWR No.51 I think for some stools being made out of jarrah. They look simple enough to modify to suit your needs. From memory they were simple T&G joinery. I'm contemplating doing a set for home.
Dave,
hug the tree before you start the chainsaw.
