Single Raised Panel for small Door

Hello,

I'm making a small raised panel door 1000x600 from the floor to about waist height, do I have to set the raised panel higher from the bottom? like you do with picture frame borders to give the elision the board is central to the frame? Is the same done for a single raised panel?

Welcome to the Forum, you will find plenty of useful information here.

I'm no expert on this stuff, but my kitchen cupboards have single raised panel doors and they are the same top and bottom, and they look ok to me.

Hi Andrew, you don't have to but personally I would as I think it gives the door a better looking balance and extra strength.

I thought picture frames were generally the same all round. As for the door it's whatever you think looks better. Sometimes, if I'm trying to visualise something like that, I'll make up a sample out of MDF or whatever's lying around, so I can compare the proportions.

No wonder it takes me so long to make things

When making single panel doors I use the darker lengths for the bottom rails. This helps give the impression of a larger rail. For a paint finish, a larger bottom rail does look better.
