Default Skew Nailing with Nail Gun

    Hi All,

I've noticed that when skew nailing with a framing nail gun the nails sit a bit proud. I'm using a 34 deg clipped head nailer, and was wondering if anyone had any tips to drive the skew nails home without use of a hammer

I'm nailing into 35mm pine - "straight" nailing is perfectly ok.

    Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

It might be the design of the gun tip and the "spurs" that are supposed to grip to allow you to skew. You might be able to increase the air pressure to fix the problem. If nailing studs to plates, nail the sides rather than the faces. The heads won't need to be driven flush as they won't get in the way.

It also depends on which way you hold the gun. Experiment by turning the gun 90 degrees and see how it goes.

Depending on your type of nail gun you can sometimes adjust the depth the gun drives to.

At the risk of being over simple ........ could it be that you arn't able to lean on it enough whilst holding it on the skew angle..... maybe move your body to the side so you can lean in to it rather than just twist your wrist to hold it at the angle.

Could well be - must admit I tend to keep away from the gun a bit as well. Good tip!
