I bought one of the blades in this video. It was $800 and does everything, cuts Sydney Blue Gum 100mm thick and that is tough stuff, cuts laminate with no chipping, is way way quieter and the finish off the blade looks like it was hand planed. Given that a few Leucos or similar would cost about the same I reckon it is not such a stupid price as it would first appear. It rips and cross cuts the same in either mode so no changing blades. It does require a new riving knife as it is a thin 2mm kerf.

It has a 30mm arbor with brake pin holes and I have put mine on a no name panel saw. Just be aware that it does require a thinner riving knife and if that is not available one could be made fairly easily.

These blades are the dux guts. If you are working in solid timber their ability on both cross and rip cutting is excellent. For laminated sheets the need for a scribe blade is no longer required, provided the sheets are quality melamine. cheap crap still needs a scribe and a sharp one at that..So far I have got at least twice the life out of the blade and it is still cutting well. They are not cheap but they are good.

To finally close out this thread for any searching in the future.

I finally decided on a Minimax Lab 300 P combo machine after the local agent put me in touch with someone locally who has a CU300. I decided on it and put a deposit down in May but only received it mid December (Italians and their summer holidays). Due to Christmas, I haven't had much opportunity to use it in anger just yet but from what I have done, it is a sensational machine and a lot more machine than I am capable of using to it's potential but plenty of room to improve.

The combo worked for me as I needed a planer/thicknesser but the shaper is just a bonus but I did purchase an optional extra shaft that can turn the shaper into a router. I haven't used this yet but I believe it is only really suitable for larger bits due to the slower speed of the shaper compared to a traditional router.

Thank you for everyone's assistance, steering me away from the sawstop through to this fantastic bit of kit and lots of learning along the way.

    Cheers

All good, Vovo, and an excellent outcome.

The learning is just beginning. May I suggest that you view as many European videos as possible showing how to use a sliding top saw - the Felder DIY videos are particularly good, as are their demonstrators.

Suggest that you ignore most American/British you tube videos as their are too many expert idiots trying to use a slider like a saw bench. This is just plain silly.

Watch Sam Blasko on YT, he is a MM rep in the US and a master of sliding table saws.

Thanks, Chris. Always the exception to the rule; but we cannot embarrass our hosts by naming some of the idiots. Also remember, "Minimax America" is a great Italian made saw!
