Default How should I sort this out?

I am building an entertainment unit and managed to install a shelf divider slightly proud of the shelves, around 1mm.
My initial thinking is to use my block plane from either end so that I do not end up damaging the shelf and top.
Is this the best way to go or is there a better way? The timber is celery top.
    Thanks

That's how I do it with my no. 4 plane. Rest the edge of the plane blade on the timber edge that is proud and plane towards the centre.
