    Default sound proofing

I am using various power tools in my shed which are reasonably noisy and am concerned I am annoying my neighbours. I have lined the shed with a sound reducing isulation and plasterboard which has taken the edge of the noise but is there anymore I can do?

    Hi Ferrous

Are you able to test your shed yourself, as in have someone else use or powerup the tools while you walk around the area and hear what you might hear. Open windows and doors do make a difference as well.

If you haven't had any complaints and use your tools in daylight hours and the more quiet ones at night, then you shouldn't have any problems.

Another option is to find out what the noise levels and time restrictions are for your area and see if you can get someone to measure the noise your tools make. Then you'd be sure of exactly where you stand if your neighbours complaiin.

    cheers
    Wendy

    Hi Ferrous,

Firstly welcome to the forum, there is a wealth of information here which you will find usefull as you search through the different threads (carefull it's contagious).

Now then, the shed...before you go rushing off maddly spending money on more insulation and paneling..talk to your neighbours and ask if the noise is bothering them, if not then you don't have a problem.
If you find that they do have a gripe then I would do as Wendy said and adjust your noisy work for hours that are acceptable.

BTW, what can we attribute the noise to? that is to say, what are you making in said shed?

    Himzo.

There are local council laws that state the hours you can use power tools

    - use them between these hours and you will be safe. Having said this,

talk to you neighbours and say what you are doing, usually neighbours

    are understanding.
