Ferrules
BD, the .50 cal cases are a tad small for most turning tools but the old 20mm Hispano or Oerliken cases are just about perfect. The modern 20mm aircraft cannon shells are a little large but still work OK.

You are right though i just looked it up.... about 17mm at the base...so probably not much use except for smaller turning tools.
As for the 20mm Hispano or Oerliken....I dont know any one with one of them....so for now I guess i will have to keep buying ferrules for my turning tools .

I actually prefer it when its long....as a benchrest shooter it saves me having to put wind flags out.... if i can just watch the grass blowin in the wind
cheers
