Couldn't have said it better. Years ago when I lived in Perth I had a lot of Golden Orb Weavers which used to put their webs right across the path outside the back door that led through the fernery. I was telling someone about this and they said whenever I see them making a web, knock it down. It takes a lot of effort to build a web and spiders aren't stupid. Every evening I'd go outside while they were web building and knocked down anything being built across the path. In short time, a week or two, they wisened up and realized the webs they built in amongst the ferns weren't getting damaged. That's where they ended up building them for months after that.

Make it uncomfortable, by whichever means, and sure enough, they'll move on.

On our houseboat (as well as the rest of the dock) suffers from spider webs each and every summer day. You can distroy the webs daily yet they return. One neat side note, every morning you can sit on the deck drinking coffee watching the Hummingbirds pluck the insects caught the night before from the webs. At first I thought they were gathering the dew from the night before but after watching on a warm summer's morn and no dew on the webs.... talked to a "Bird Lady" friend and she said it is common for Hummingbirds to eat insects.
But I would reather watch them pluck bugs from other boats and be able to open the door and step out without getting a face full of web. Hopefully the electronic devices I am installing this week, will rid them (Houseboats have such small amount of electrical system I fear that the field willl be too small for much help.

My biggest fear is the snakes that seem to enjoy climbing into the rear Bilge area, nothing there but fuel tanks, battery and pumps but they seem to find small openings and climb in. Always a surprise when you open the hatch, there so many nooks and crannies they can hide.

just don't touch the Daddy Long Legs!
i've been told they feast on the redbacks yummy yummy.
Been finding red backs left right and center, biggest so far was about 40mm dia. and with 2 kids running around the place it can be worrying.
The redbacks seem to be on steriods around here too, would need an army of Daddy Long Legs to tackle the ones that lurk in my shed. Will have to round up the troops that live in the roof space of the house and reassign them to the shed.

Lemon oil Cant say I have heard that. ---must try it. The shed is quite draughty so I recon I would need quite a few bombs if I went that way. Always willing to try an alternative solution, especially if it lasts for a while.

Will never forget the "barking" geckoes I had in the house in Drawin. Thought the locals were having me on until I moved there. Seemed to dispatch some of the bugs.

Gaffer tape round the socks fixes the wood chips.
I had better keep that stuff away from the pelt that grows on my legs.

I will never be the person who has everything, not when someone keeps inventing so much cool new stuff to buy.

From an early age my father taught me to wear welding gloves . "Its not to protect your hands son, its to put out the fire when u set yourself alight".

If it werent for the spiders, I'd be talking to myself and that's not healthy, apperantly.
I am pretty relaxed with them. If I see a redback I squash it, otherwise I jsut be carefull where I put my fingers.
The huntsmans (huntsmen?) and wolf spiders are often in the house and I just stick a jar over them and chuck them outside.
Got into the habit of waving my arm infront of me in certain places where the webs usually turn up.
I reckon a shed without spiders is a bit like a desk without clutter. Its just not quite right.
