Last Stages of The Spinning Wheel Restoration
Well I an glad I can post this I am sorry but I can't find the other threads in relation to the beginning of and subsequent threads there after on the forum.
But it is at testing stage and so far so good, it still needs some finishing off tweaking and then final hand over but at least for now this one is out of the workshop and the next one is on the bench ready to continue with it.
Getting alignment of the Castle of the wheel and the wheel buckle out and true hasn't been easy still some work to try attempt the buckle removal. The alignment of the wheel with the Maiden and flyer whorl all part of this has taken some time.
To those who have watched and waited sorry for the long delay I hope the new build doesn't take as long.

My first words should be something like
Finally
But it would not make sense as you have not mention the history and how long you have been working on this repair. Wheelie?

Excellent work Ray.
I love seeing old items restored (and especially re-used) that would have otherwise ended up in the back of a garbage truck.
Oh, this reminds me, I've got an old Singer sewing table in the shed that I need to do something with! Forgot all about it... I'll have to find something else to sit the junk on that is currently on top of it.
Nathan.

and, tomorrow is the GREAT SPINNING WHEEL RESTORATION handover on the deck at fletty's cave!
The family who own it can trace it back more than 5 generations but it hasn't worked for the last 3!
Tomorrow they will be reunited.....

Isla comes home
It's been quite a journey being the subject of at least 3 forum threads and 1 blog and picking up a new name, Isla! Wheelinround has done a beautiful job sympathetically bringing a family heirloom back to life. The spinning wheel returned to its owners today includes nearly all of the original material, missing bits replaced, repairs restricted to the damaged area only and now WORKING sweetly. If you get close enough you can still smell smoke from the croft in Northern Scotland where it was first used about 200 years ago!
Today it was returned to its family......

and the handover even included lessons

it was a lovely day!

Alan thanks for the opportunity sorry its taken so long (you know the reasons behind 1/2 of that LOL).
Thanks for the great afternoon and arranging the hand over it was excellent to meet the owners and share some history of the wheel, see it be used and the expression on Vicki's & Lyn's faces in your photo says it all made my day.
Just a note Sue was lucky enough to be given a Lazy Kate to hold the 3 extra bobbins I made which completes the wheel no photo of it sorry.
Over to you now Alan that Swift should have your head in a spin. Any hassles just drop it in.
Thanks all who have followed the long process as slow as it has been.
I will post the finished new one when completed very soon I hope.
