Stamps
Can anyone tell me what type of wax and stamp are used for stamping documents and pieces of work. I mean the ones that were usually done in red wax. They aren't very common these days but were decades and hundreds of years ago as a mark of identity or the writer or artist.

Sealing Wax.
Probably red coloured bees wax.
The stamp is up to you.
Melt a blob of sealing wax on your folded document, impress your "seal".

G'day,
My wife has one, and I used it just prior to Christmas to make an impression of her R initial in clay for insertion into her present.
The one she has is made of brass with the letter R etched into it, so that when you use it with wax (or clay) the letter R stands proud of the rest of the squashed goop.
That sounds very technical?????
Regards,
Noel

Just about every craft shop in the country would stock sealing wax and in a variety of colours, as for the stamp you need to find photo engraver or die sinker ( yellow pages)

and also at caligraphy suppliers and "Pen Shops".
They sell seals as well.

Daimaru, the big department store that used to be in Melbourne Central stocked seal kits, the wax, etc. so someone still makes 'em.

G'day George,
Here's another example of the use of the sealing wax stamps.
Stamped the clay which was surrounded by a larger size pipe off cut.
Fired in a normal domestic oven then inserted into a Jarrah ring which was inserted into a Tassie Oak board.
Got my stamp at a calligraphy shop.

Noel
