Starting off in woodwork
Hi there...i am new to this forum and also new to woodworking. I was just wanting to hear from members regarding some basic tools that i should look at purchasing when starting off in woodwork. I would mainly be interested in constructing small household furniture such as small tables etc to begin with. Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Craig

Gday Craig welcome to the forum
Firstly you'll need soemthing to hold your wood in. a Vice. workbench of some sort too to put the vice in
Do you want to use power tools or hand tools?
You will definitely need a hand plane and set of chisels I'd say. A saw too with maybe a mitre box, unless you want to get a drop saw.
You might need a table saw depending on if you get all the right sized timber to start off with?
Sanders, or hand sanding... you'll need sandpaper etc.
And a sharpening stone to go with the chisels and plane
The other more experienced woodworkers will tell you a bit more.
Good luck with it all and show some pics or plans of your projects.I'd rather build it than buy it......

My advice is to find a plan of something you'd like to build (can search online for woodworking plans, or buy Australian Woodsmith or equivalent magazine).
Most plans will have fairly detailed instructions. Then you can work out the tools you need for the project and go from there.
Then your next project will justify another tool, and before you know it ....
