    Default Steam bend.

Has anyone got designs for a steaming chamber? My 1st effort failed to generate enough heat.

    Cheers Tony.

So as we don't get all confused......it is after 9 PM...go up the top of the page to the search area........highlight the woodworking forums bit....type in steam bending...then stand back. Every post from the forum on steam bending comes up.
If you need more info after you've read all that then give us another yell.

    Regards,
    Noel

    G'day Tony,
I'll bash the plans into shape and reduce them to a suitable size for posting here.
The best reference that I have is The Complete Manual of Wood Bending by Lon Schleining published by Linden Publishing.
I got my copy via Amazon.com.
    Regards,
    Noel
I think the Tradepersons site might be from the UK

    G'day Tony,
Here's a drawing of the plan I used. I've had three test runs, and on the third run I wacked in some pine and of course I cracked it during bending "cos I haven't built the compression straps yet.
It reaches between 87º C and 93º C ...don't know why the range?????
Points I learned from the book and used where:
Used formwork ply.......got it from the local tip.
    Used a 240V Urn.........cost me a dollar at a clearing sale.
Used Polyurethane glue on all joints. No screws.....where I did use them they were removed when the glue set.
The door is a loose fit, with weather seal on the edges.
    Bits I "thunked" up myself:

added the two 12V DC fans to move the steam around.
They are Item 33383 from www.rockby.com.au and cost $3.50 each.
They draw 200 milliamps each, and I powered them from a 12V 500milliamp plug pack mounted externally.
After each test run I removed them to see how much moisture had got in them. Couldn't shake any drops of water out of them....so I don't know how long they'll last.....don't care...bought 10 of 'em from Rockby.
    Other point:
I only half filled the urn (water conscious) that's 12litres, and that took 25minutes to reach a rolling boil. The meat thermometer took 45 minutes from switch on to reach about 90ºC.

Hope that's of interest to you.
    Regards,
    Noel
Bugger.I've had an invalid file message when I tried to upload the drawing.
I'll send this to save typing all that again, and follow with a drawing.
