i install mirrors,splashbacks etc.Use double sided tape to hold the mirror in place while the non acidic/neutral cure silicone sets.Also use silicone in vertical lines not blobes,so moisture runs down and blobes take ages to dry,Use marine ply if you need to use timber.

why not buy the mirror that most new bathrooms have , with a metal surround and is usually held in by two screws top and bottom then plastic covers over the screws, can you imagine trying to scrape off the old glass should you break it,how dangerous and laborious would that be ? lot harder than unscrewing four screws.......bob
