I am making a bar stool with a 2 3/4" thick Sapelle wood carved out tractor seat. The finished size will be 18" wide x 16" deep. Since this stool surface is very thick, I will need a rough piece of wood about 6" thick in order for me to book match the grain. Wood of any kind with this thickness dimension is hard to find and if you do find it, there may be questions as to weather it will check after cutting. The legs will be of 2" ash tapered to about one inch at the seat entrance. I am able to measure the leg angles. I have two questions:
1. Although I have an idea of what type of jig I would build to assure a consistent leg angle for each leg, what is the best jig to construct for this purpose?
2. If I did not book match the grain, would the job turn out to be satisfactory?
Thanks, Jetman
