how do you stop dust getting into your CD player ?
gonna shout myself a cdplayer for my workshop this week, and just wondering how I'll go about keeping all the wood dust out of it ?.... or just don't worry about it. just thinking cause I've gone through a couple of calculators in my shed cause dust got in them.

Maybe, keep it outside the workshop in a weatherproof box and just have the speakers inside. Otherwise keep it in a dust free drawer or cupboard (if such a thing exists). Using a plastic bag would just make the unit overheat and die prematurely.
Something without moving parts would be better, a iPod or similar with speakers maybe?

Probably time to go with updated technology for a dusty envorinment. There are lots of ipod decks around, I guess some of them would play from usb sticks as well.

About all you can do is what Groggy suggested. Dust gets everywhere and hard to stop it.
Reality is no background music.

Throw a tea towel or sheet over it. Doesn't affect cooling greatly, keeps it clean.
Works for me.So many ideas........so little skill........

I've got my old cassett player up as high as I can get it , at the far end of the shed away from the sanding area, no probs in 8 years , though I only use the radio
Ashore
The trouble with life is there's no background music.

make a quick case for the cd player with a glass/perspex front so you can use the remote control for it (thats if there is one)... otherwise i think if you give it a good blow out with the air hose everyday u should have to much trouble with it..

With all the modern technology available is their reasonable sounding, radio station in hard to get country NSW that plays "shed music"? To have to keep a eye on CDs or tapes is sometimes a PITB and really what we (I) am looking for is backgrouind white noise to fill in the gap when not using a machine to offset the Tinitus. Our local radio station (AM) has reasonable music but then swings over to "super radio network" and we have to endure hour after hour of Talk Back. The callers seem to come from the shallow end of the gene pool and drone on and on about crap.
Yeah I know Grumpy Old Man Syndrome coming to the foreJust do it!
Kind regards Rod

Get an iPod and a computer sound system.
A reasonable iPod will cost you $200 and a basic computer sound system which will plug into your iPod will cost you anywhere upwards of $30.
Mine runs all day with either music playing or podcasts. An iPod will give you a lot more flexibility in program material than a CD player. You can load your CDs on to it also.

My parents in law bought me a work site radio, that also has aux input for iPod. I would imagine an ipod deck might suffer the same problem as dust would get onto the interface. I guess as long as you blow it out between uses it might be ok.
Sound is pretty good, reception for the radio is a little on the dodgy side, what with being in the shed and all. The antenna is the screw in kind so I am considering whether I can extend this to an external one for better reception. I can't get Nova 100 which is a pain!
