    Default Suggestions Needed

I have been hobby woodworking since retirement some years ago and two years ago saw the piece of timber, photo attached while in Melany. It is 900mm x 300m x 20mm, it has been split along the centre and joined with what looks like epoxy so it may have cupped originally. It is stable now and will require a small amount of work to get it flat..

Tecnically it belongs to my daughter but neither of us have had any inspiration for a utility or artistic(?) use.

So if anyone has any suggestions they would be most welcome.

I reckon you'd get a few sets of box sides out of it. It looks interesting but not really wild, it would probably go well with a highly figured top panel.

It looks like a piece of She Oak and could be made into a couple of cutting or serving boards. I saw a design recently with square tapered legs about 25-30mm high, looked nice.

"River oak" (Allocasuarina cunninghamiana) would be my bet, croccy. The ones around here commonly get that black-heart spalting. It makes the wood more interesting than its usual pale greyish brown, but the black wood splits like crazy during drying. I've dried it really carefully trying to preserve large pieces, but rarely manage to get sound bits much larger than pen blanks....

    Cheers,

Thanks for the suggestions and info about the species. I saw a larger slab made into a very nice hall table when I bought it so did the classic of buying without a project in mind.
Probably explains the collection of wood in the garage
    Regards
