Anybody want to make a table for cash?
G'day, I've just moved into a small place and need a table to prepare food on in the kitchen cos theres no table space. I'll be using a chopping board on it so it doesnt have to be right for food. Looking in Melbourne if anybody is interested.
100cm high x 70cm x 40cm with 2 shelves beneath. What do you think would be a reasonable price?
Cheers,
Nic

shhhhh, Nic the tax man may do wood turning or boatbuiding as a hobby.
Although everyone knows they're not human so why would they want a hobby. Inc gst $1800 but then you would need freight to that Mexico/Melbon place.

I'm no use to you because I'm on the other side of the world, but perhaps you could give people more details to work from.
Do you want a top of the range carefully crafted hardwood masterpiece, or a very basic stuck together softwood/manufactured board type surface to sit stuff on?Looking for an inexpensive accurate and detailed job estimation solution? www.dsm-systems.com

I was only after something basic for a couple of hundred bucks because when I move out in a year or two I may have no need for it. If I cant get something for that then I'll need to look second hand.
The image I've inserted is from another blokes thread on this site, I dont need it as flash as this but you get the idea and with 2 shelves not 3, or just one shelf if it saves costs.

Hi and welcome Nic,
You may have trouble getting someone to build something "custom" for a couple of hundred. It's surprising how long something "simple" can take to build.
For that sort of money it is more a love job ... you may be better asking relatives or friends who have an interest in woodworking, if they could do it for you.
As you mentioned, second hand may be an option ... or even modifying something second-hand (well built) to suit your needs.
Good luck, and you never know maybe someone here is feeling generous with their time, or are looking for something to do.Cheers.
Vernon.

Wouldn't it be much simpler to go to IKEA or similar place? It would seem to be perfect for your needs/budget.

I think the suggestion of grabbing something from ikea is probably the best, may not be the exact dimensions and as strong as I want but for the price close enough is good enough. Thanks for everybodies time in reading my thread.
I'd love to have my own shed and build stuff as I need it, the feeling must be extremely rewarding to stand back and look at what you have created with your own two hands.
Cheers,
Nic

I just read about someone whose workshop is in his bedroom, you do not need a complete shed to make things. A few handtools such as hammer, screwdriver, saw sufficed me for a lot of years.
Maybe what I made was not up to world standard but I was proud of the fact that I did it myself. I still have the little penknife I carved out of a willow branch when I was 8 and the one I made from a bone with a coping saw when I was 10.
