    Default Small table clamps

Hi all. Looking for a small type of clamp that might be able to be inserted into a benchtop, in order to clamp a thinnish piece of timber to the benchtop, whilst routering it. And not necessarily clamping it to the outside of the bench.

    Any suggestions or ideas,.?

    Regards

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

    Bench dogs.....

Carba-Tec Low Profile Plastic Bench Dogs : CARBA-TEC

There's lots of different types, big, small, square and round.

    Cheers

Hi and thanks Bryan, I was perusing the latest Carbatec catalogue tonight and noticed those there. The other that caught my attention was the "hold down clamps" with a T Track. I'm going to phone them in the morning and get their opinion,

    Thanks again,

    Paul

I've drilled some 19mm dog holes in my bench, you can use good old Irwin Quick Grips through them. Just pull the head off the clamp, then reassemble with the bar through the dog hole, then clamp away - very convenient.....

If you are just holding it to rout a grove, then one of the rubber mats will hold it well enough, even the rubbery mesh draw liners you get at the bargain shops work, no need for clamps.

If you are chiselling etc then you will need some sort of clamping system as well as a riser to keep the top of the board above any dogs when using power tools (bang, sparks, shrapnel - DAMHIK) or planes (also DAMHIK).

Lee Valley also make some very thin dogs (3mm or so high) called Bench Blades - they have an eccentric which moves the jaw up to 6mm, so they can be used as a quick release clamp.
