Table Leg Attachment

Hi WWF,

Does anyone have any experience with attaching angle table legs to a thick table top without any skirt, similar to what is depicted in the photo?

Presumably M8 flanged threaded inserts are used with JCB connection bolts to attach the legs to the cross brace and then again to connect the cross brace to the table top. I would be keen to see an instructional video on how this is done so I can learn from others mistakes rather then learn the hard way

Most commercial units use a wooden angle or straight cleat with pre-installed threaded inserts and lag bolts/screws in the top of the legs.

Much of the construction joint detail depends upon the size of the table, intended use, and design - i.e. will stretchers be used? or are legs to be independent?

I have taken from the site that rather then using the JCB bolts I should use a threaded insert bolt. I was initially thinking that I would need multiple bolts per leg to cleat attachment. The site suggests that just the one is ok.

I am not keen on angling the cleat as this will require a thicker cleat that will be more visible from the side. I am thinking that I need to stick with angling the leg; the trick will be getting the insert bolt parallel to the leg.

I have done a quick google for videos but come up empty handed. Looks like some trial and error is in order,

Any suggestions on where to purchase the LAG screws and the threaded inserts?

The ones at Bunnings didnt review very well and are only M6

Elraco have a few different sizes

Lag Screw, Hanger Bolt. Steel | Elraco Distributors.

Bunnings also have different sizes according to their website.

Tested the insert screws from bunnings and the thread sheered straight off with 50kg of lateral force. Not bad but not good enough to move forward.

Reckon some better quality ones would do the trick however reconsidering the idea of removable legs now.
