    Hey PCP,

I have been trimming Sheoak and Jarrah for the last 3 years (and commercial mouldings), and haven't even needed to sharpen my blades yet. (about $50.00 I have been Quoted) You would need to sharpen about 18-20 times before you needed to replace them, ( unless you are trying to trim Nails and things), so as I said before the trimmer has been the best money I have spent in a looooong Time.

I agree with Harry. I still haven't had to sharpen my trimmer blades once. By the time you make a shooting board, decide what plane to buy, learn to use that plane and shooting board and how to keep the plane sharp and buy the stones to keep it sharp, you could have made a stack of frames with the trimmer and your mitre saw. Not that making a shooting board, buying using and learning to sharpen the plane are not admirable ambitions, it's just you need to know there is always a down side to everything. The downside to the trimmer is up front cost. But then thinking about it, the cost of materials, plane and sharpening gear is probably about the same. Do whatever floats your boat, but the trimmer is about the most foolproof method - IMO

    Cheers
    Michael
