    Default Tallow wood

Today I had some huge trees cut down one is a tallow and the other is similar though I don't think it's the same.
I had the straight section of trunk cut to about 5m and have four of those.
I think I would like it milled for use as a deck (bearers and joysts) but unsure whether is suitable and if it can be used green?
Also I'm looking for someone who could mill it in northern NSW?
Couple of pics below. Any help would be appreciated.
First pic is the tallow on the ground , second and third are the tree I'm not sure of

You could talk to Mal Ward at Boutique Timbers, or Stan Ceglinski at Billinudgel Woodworks for advice on how useful the timber is, and milling.

    Thumbs up

Tallow wood is a wonderfully durable timber!

Very resistant to pests, extremely strong and often used in the past, when it was plentiful, for dance floors and external window sills. Tool handles would be a good use for T/wood. I have a mallet with a T/wood handle that is over 50 years old and it was only evr rubbed with BLO. Still in perfect condition.

I like the look of polished t/wood and the fell of the polished timber is hard to match.Gre

Great timber to have and lucky you!!!

Artme is spot on - very durable. A fairly ordinary looking timber for the most part, but hell strong particularly if quarter sawn. Used for window sills etc. An excellent structural timber.

Very well behaved during drying too - not much bowing/twisting, and not much end checks, particularly if sealed properly.

Sure you can use it green for a deck.
Green is the only way you'll be able to nail it.

Gee you they only just misted that shed!

Yes I was very lucky they were going to rope then decided not to. Considering all my woodworking gear is in there I'm glad it didn't (they were insured) I have a few sections left over only 1.5m long but 0.9 in diameter we rolled down the hill think I'll drag them back up and save. Thanks for your advice
