    Default Which tape to use?

I am curious as to which tape as in sticky tape people use on bare timber, whether it's laying down to prevent glue spread or as a general holder before glue up?

i have seen many pics with WIP using blue painters tape, and was wondering if there is any leaching from the gun base in the adhesive on timbers? I have bought some Gold painters tape with low adhesion and 60day clean removal.

interested to hear of people's thoughts and or leaching disasters (if any).

    Hi Fumbler,
I use plain old masking tape as I also use it for lining up corners and clamping boxes so I don't want low adhesive for that reason. I have never had a problem with leaching or left over glue residue.

Thanks Rod, I normally use the blue, and don't have any gum issues over a day or 2 but I have a delicate issue about how long I can leave it on. As I am not sure how long it will be between glue up and tape removal due to inaccessibility of a workshop. I say that as the tape will be inside a sealed box before seperating the lid. To prevent glue running down the inside face and curing before I can wipe clean.

I use blue for masking and normal white for clamping. Never had any glue issues, but tapes with higher adhesion tend to pull the grain up when removed so you'll need to re-sand afterwards.

I use the blue painter's tape. The tape has a unique attribute in that it is slightly stretchy. It can be used for slight clamping pressure.

I've tried Frog Tape (It's green in color) and the results are about the same. Just a bit more expensive.

I've occasionally left blue tape a couple of weeks without any problems. Great stuff.
My experience with Frog tape I found it to be basically crap and I'll never buy it again.
I live in a humid climate which might have a bearing on my experiences.
