Hey Lig, I don't do mock ups, I may do a scribbley sketch, it all rolls around in my head, few more scribbles and away I go. I have done two google sketch ups now to send to internet/email clients just so we are both on the same page. I may keep doing these as they only take half an hour at the most and it gives me a starting point. Then I can draw and scribble all over them to work in the finer points. . Attached latest sketch up, very basic but a good starting point. Recycled timber, 2 drawers, 100sq legs it is a bathroom bench and will have 2 basins on top.

TL have you got any more photos of your project yet?

Although you have got some shavings to clear up.
The shavings from planing are almost too pretty to throw away. Think I might keep some to package my pottery in their gift boxes.

TL those are the current prices from AFT in Port Melb
A lot of the other students I don't think should be let loose on really wood yet. I seem to have done lot of reading and know the principals of why things are done certain ways. I have also been working with my hands and making things all my life really. I feel like I can see what needs to be done.

Is AFT Australian Furniture timber? I'm a bit closer to Mathews Timber. Would they have similar prices? I want to make the next project out of Silky Oak. What is that like to work?

The teacher showing us what to do is actually a member of this forum but he has never posted apparently. Just registered so he could see the pictures. (Go on George. Post something. I dare you. )

    Its only been since yesterday.

Hubby made a Google sketch up of our kitchen cupboards. Now all I need to do is make 'em. I quite like drawing with actual pencil and paper. At least then I know what I need cos I had to draw it all.

TL, Mathews would have a cubic price very close to AFT maybe a bit above or below, no idea but close. Just remember that boards up to 200mm have a lower cubic price than 200 plus. Either way NG Rosewood is cheap as chips. Your little table would be a stunner in that timber

Off I go then. George wants us to laminate the top (Just to learn the right way ) of the table anyway, so small wood is the go.

G'day viewers. Our Tabouret project continues. Week three I think it is.

A bit of time was spent sharpening and fiddling about with my new (to me ) spoke shave. Some more fiddling is still required I think. But I used it to smooth the insides of the cut away on the bottom rails. I still need a round bottomed one, or some sandpaper round a dowel, to smooth the inside of the very tight curves at the end.

    Attachment 120179Attachment 120180Attachment 120181

Next I marked out the mortises, and chiseled two out using my 13mm chisel that is really 12mm, and my new improved mallet. The one I used last week was a little heavy. (550gms ) The new one is a bit on the light side (250gms ), so I might make an in between one (around 400gms ) before next week. Two more to go, then cut the tenons. Then laminate the table top.

    See yall next week.

Its only about 4 hours minus a cup of tea at the start, a tea break, and a cup of tea before putting everything in the car again. ( Plus, I'm only learning. )

    Looking good, TL.
Question: Did you cut the mortices first for any particular reason? Looking at your post, I thought something was different, and realised that I always cut my tenons first. I don't think there's any advantage to one over the other, it's just the way I've always done it.

Good on you for taking on a difficult project. The more you challenge yourself the more you will learn. The Dark Arts take lots of lots of time so try not to even think about how much time you are spending making your table. I hope you are enjoying yourself.

It will be sulking because its master has now progressed to “real” woodworking
