Tempered masonite used to be darker. Has it changed?
Had to order in tempered masonite at my hardware store. On pickup today it looked like ordinary masonite.
"Does this look like tempered masonite to you?"
The guy looked at it and said he thought tempered masonite was darker. That's what I thought. I googled it and in a number of cases it confirmed this view. There was no label of any sort on this one. Anyway, they gave me a refund pending their investigation.
Has tempered masonite changed so that it's no longer darker? How do you know you're getting the genuine article? It cost more!

I used to sell Masonite by the truck loads which came from the factory at Bundamba near Ipswich. It was made from local hardwoods so if the factory is now in another location the timber available may have changed which could impact on colour, but maybe not because the boards are cooked at high temp during manufacture.
But long story short if its tempered it should be stamped
