Default Another THANK YOU Gift for the 50yr Navy Reunion

Another THANK YOU Gift for the 50yr Navy Reunion

Yes the reunion is still on for about one third of the blokes from our mob who aren’t in Lockdown Stay at Home Orders.

One of the blokes on the reunion committee who has been collating the 50yr reunion story book.

I had an offcut of a slab from the Iron Bark tree I had cut down in my yard.

I did a butterfly cut then biscuited and glued the two halves together.

The feature of the piece of timber is the branch which I stabilized with clear epoxy.

All the other smaller splits, holes and imperfections were filled with Starbond medium thick black.

I kept the live edge as best I could.

The board has been sanded very smooth before finishing with my homemade WipeOnPoly

    Cheers crowie

    Forget the measurements:

    19 3/4" [500mm] long
    10 5/8" [270mm] at the widest
    7/8" [22mm] thick

A serving board or cheeseboard that's just a little heavy too!
    Cheers, Peter

That's far too flash for serving Pusser's Mousetrap; but well done!

You could substitute blocks of Hard Yellow for the mousetrap; as a jaunty his palate won’t be refined enough to know the difference and as a sludgemariner he wouldn’t have encountered enough soap to recognise it anyway!

Seriously though that’s a fine piece; my beloved has been on at me to make a natural edge board for a while so I may have to attack a pair of dead bloodwoods on the property. One has a forked trunk that may prove interesting…

I had a look at the top of the board in the sunlight and wasn’t happy with it.
Brought it back into the shed and resanded the top taking the WipeOnPoly finish off.
Gave the top of the board two coats of “raw natural coconut oil” with some sun time between coats.
Much happier with the finish now.
    Cheers crowie
