    Default That's not a baby gate, THIS is a baby gate

    Ok so the title of the thread is a little over the top, but here we go:



    We had an off the shelf one, but that sat on (and subsequently scratched) the floor. It also damaged the gyprock something chronic.

    This is made of primed 2x4, pool gate hardware and stainless steel called Quickwire (which is awesome). Anyhow, this cost about $175 in materials. Hopefully it'll last a good 4-5 years we'll need it. The off the shelf thing lasted 6 months with the dogs (two labradors who figured out how to open the normal ones as soon as they were tall enough)

    That looks great.

    It is made to fit that locality, so it swings onto the landing, rather than most "baby gates" which will swing both ways.

    The sides are attached to a solid surface which will greatly increase its strength and durability.
    I have put up a few "baby gates", which while designed correctly, the location of installation was not 100% ideal.
    What I normally do if there is a plaster wall is fit a plain board to spread the load and reduce the risk of marking.

    I wish I'd done this when we had the other gate there......you might be able to see the damage it caused to the plaster near the top hinge....I'm not very good at fixing plaster
