Which thicknesser.
I am only at entry level and I guess for me I have narrowed down 2 selections, mainly as I can pick them in in Brisbane
both bench top
Hafco T 13
or the
carbatec 317
I like the Carbatec for quality and the hafco appeals for price.
any help in making a selection. Appreciated
cheers
Bill

Go the carbatec. If you want something reliable. Hafco can be hit and miss.
Don't forget to budget dust extraction.

I'd certainly recommend upgrading what ever you get to a helical or spiral head rather than the usual 2 or 3 traditional knives / blades. The better finish, reduced tear out and noise is worth it. It's also a lot easier to recover from chipped blades "when" you eventually hit a hidden nail.
Cheers

My personal favourite is the DeWalt 735-XE, but with spiral head it costs around $2,000.
But we are blowing your budget, Bill. The Carbatec will work fine, in the longer term you would find the DeWalt more enjoyable.

The timbecon 13'' deluxe with helical head is great value for that price and would be my pick if I was in the market for one. I just recently fitted a helical head to my dewalt 735 as the cost of the heads is starting to come down but the dewalt with strait blades is as much as the helical head timbecon machine.

John

You'll love it.
I've had this one for a while and it's a gem.

This and other posts pushed me over the edge, and I ordered the Sherwood helical benchtop job from Timbecon today. I may be weird, but the noise reduction is maybe the biggest selling point for me. This is by far my biggest spend on a single item, but it's on special for February, so a good time to give in
A jointer will have to wait though. Guess I need to make Yet Another Sled.
